do they matter?

Just wondering if recommendations actually help or not. Can anyone tell me if I should try to get them or if they don't matter?

Here's the truth: A recommendation doesn't get you in, but it can keep you from getting automatically dropped. The majority of girls going through rush know to get their recs because most sororities must have a rec to offer a bid. If we LOVE you and can't live without you and you don't have a rec, we will get one for you, but this is a lot of trouble and therefore extremely rare. Mostly we are deciding among a bunch of girls who are all equally great, but cuts must happen, so guess which really great girls get automatically cut? That's right; the ones with no recs. Get your recs or take your chances. Your choice.
