I was PM last year -- and had a really hard time during rush -- here is the deal.
Try not to rely on the rankings you see hear so much. They are kinda right, but kinda not. Think of it like the friend groups in HS. One friend group in HS might seem like the coolest girls but in reality if you were in that friend group you would probably hate it. And the girls in that are actually in that friend group are not always loving life and each other as much as they make it seem.
My mistake was that I really wanted to be in a "top tier". Those girls seemed so fun and seemed like they had so much fun together so when I got dropped from so called top houses I was devastated. I didn't drop from rush, but lots of girls I know did. I ended up in a lower mid tier (according to this website). I can remember not being super excited before pref round, but in the end it definitely was the right place for me. As the year went on I realized those "top tiers" would not have been a good fit for me as later heard stories from girls in so called top tier and that just wasn't for me.
So be prepared to cry a lot and try to be open to all your options and hopefully things will work out for you in the end.
