rush alpha chi?
by: monaI am very interested in rushing, and i came across Alpha Chi at school today. In your (anyone's) opinions, would that be a good or bad move? When ia sk this i mean based on the girls who are in the sorority, the social aspect and all around acceptance by them.

Alpha Chi is not affiliated with the university, they commonly trick freshman into joining them. Alpha Chi, along with other independent fraternities/sororities contribute NOTHING to your college experience. I highly recommend only looking at affiliated sororities and fraternities, unaffiliated Greek organizations have horrible reputations among the campus community. Many Greeks don't even consider them to be an actual sorority! Please spread the word to other freshman to stay away from them.

Alpha Chi was the first sorority at Chico State. Who ever wrote that first comment about Alpha Chi tricking its members to join is a person who is not the smartest. Alpha Chi is a great sorority and has a very strong alumni all over the State. The experience of being in Alpha Chi is a great life learning experince you will enjoy for the rest of your life. Go Alpha Chi you rock!!!

I don't usually respond to these but this time I really need to. Alpha Chi has been at Chico State longer than ANY of the other sororities whether National or local. They are self governed, own their house(s) outright, have a strong values based doctrine and a super active and responsible alumni chapter.
What don't they have? Massive national dues, a national board that directs their every move, a house mother that does bed checks or an expectation that everyone has to "fit" the national mold.
Alpha Chi and other local sororities at Chico were part of Panhellenic council (which by the way means ALL GREEK) until the National groups voted to exclude local organizations. Alpha Chi was asked several times to annex into Alpha Chi Omega and declined because they have their own history.
Look. There is room for everyone in the Greek community, Alpha Chi doesn't need to trick people to join, it's a different, more independent experience than a national machine. Choose your sorority based on who YOU are not on what you want others to think you are and you'll be much happier.

In my opinion, Alpha Chi would be an excellent choice for yourself and for anyone who comprehends and agrees with their ideals. Personally, I did some background research on Alpha Chi and although they are NOT affiliated with the school, they are still an amazing sorority. There are some pros and cons that come along with rushing for a non-affiliated sorority but, that is ultimately left for you to decide. Since Alpha Chi is not affiliated the cost for joining is very inexpensive, and their rules are considerably different from the norm. In my opinion, they are certainly more diverse than some of the multicultural sororities on campus at CSUC; just saying.

As an Alpha Chi Alum (Sp '01) I can say Alpha Chi is as good as the rest. If you want to join do it, if you don't then that is ok too. I had ups and downs with the group but I have to be honest it is what you put into it is what you get out of it. I can say there is a really strong bond with the girls even the ones who have been slighted, we can't ignore that place in our hearts for the Sorority-that-could. Alpha Chi is the oldest sorority to Chico State recognized or not. I would dare to say it actually bonds you more to Chico than a National Sorority might. Either Way Much Love to AX and Mine.

This chapter has been around FOREVER! My mom was in this chapter in the 80's and swears they were top house. They are real but exclude themselves because they chose to disaffiliate when the rules of Chico State were changing their sisterhood.
I think this was a mistake and should come back. I chose to go panhellenic but my sister followed my mom's footsteps because her GPA was too low. She has told me that the reason why they arent back on campus is because alumni (who have a lot of power still in their chapter) wont compromise on tradition and let them give up "hazing" rituals.

okay, that is what i was actually thinking, is it still going to make the same impact because its not affiliated? thanks for answering that, among other things!
