sigma pi suspended
by: chico
so word on the street is sigma pi is kicked off, this leaves
theta chi
sigma nu
alpha sig
phi delt
phi tau
kappa sig
what's going to happen? the only strong fraternity left is theta chi it looks like. also with only 6 fraternities... is greek life even worth it? and phi felt, phi tau, and kappa sig all have less than 30 members. it's going to be strange next year.

Fraternities need school affiliation, everyone leaving school affiliation isn't realistic. Middle houses that do good in recruitment will rise up and become top houses. I see nothing but potential in Sigma Nu, Phi Tau, and Kappa Sigma. All 3 of them will supposedly have annex houses next year in good locations.
This isn't the first time top houses (Sigma Pi, Sigma Chi) have been wiped off the map in Chico's history. Between 2002-2005 there were over 17 school affiliated fraternities, most of the top houses during this era were kicked off campus, the same is happening again in our era.

also, if you think the university doesn't care about greeks partying you're delusional. the school wants to rid itself of its party school reputation and it's starting where it has power: the greek system. the new noise ordinance is the tip of the ice burg, look at the social host ordinance the city is drafting up that the school is pushing heavily.

Everything is just being speculated, no one knows exactly what will happen with the Greek system in Chico next year. In my opinion everyone will go rouge and the fraternities with larger houses will have a major advantage against those with smaller houses. All freshman care about is joining a fraternity that throws parties frequently even if no sorority girls attend the parties, PIKE is a prime example of this. One thing I'm certain about is that Theta Chi will remain top house unless their nationals pull recognition.

I do not agree. I think the greek system would benefit if the fraternities disaffiliated with the school. It has happened at other schools before. I think that next year if fraternities keep having parties and what not then everyone will get kicked off and there will be only a few ones left.
