ifc
by: Transfer studentWhich fraternities are affiliated with IFC? And does affiliation actually effect anything?

Not a big fan of IFC but being affliated protects you to an extent from law enforcement. In some cities NIMBY's and uptight neighborhood councils go after rogue frats and get them prosecuted as gangs or cults. At least IFC and the university shields frats from stuff like that.

Idk if everyone knows this but they should.. ifc is going to start putting sanctions on sorority girls who affiliate themselves with non ifc fraternities like sigma chi and theta chi. Going to their parties, putting up pictures at their formals or dinners, wearing their letters, any affiliation will lead to punishment. Sig chi knows this and is attempting to rejoin the ifc which they will have to be on a year long probation for. Who knows about theta. These guys try to say they are the only “real” fraternities at chico but everyone knows that’s a joke. They may have better parties since they can have alcohol easily accessible but other than that they are so lame. My fraternity parties but we also do way more to benefit our community and our futures. Same as the other ifc fraternities. Have your fun while you can but the end of these guys is very soon unless they join ifc

The concept of fully rogue fraternities is sorta new and not exactly widespread, but law enforcement and communities are starting to leverage gang legislation to shut them down and push them out of their neighborhoods. The legal definition of gang varies by state and municipality but the basic throughline is:
- an organization with a shared goal or purpose
- a documented pattern of criminal activity or infractions, and
- an identifying name, insignia, sign, or symbol for the group
The penalties also vary but can range from a simple gang injunction, punishable by imprisonment for failure to comply, to felony criminal prosecutions and asset forfeiture. Again, this isn't exactly common but local law enforcement, neighborhood councils, community associations, NIMBY homeowners, city council people and aldermen, and what not are definitely strategizing legal ways to punish rogue fraternities in the harshest possible manner, and to make an example out of them
