My first semester I mostly studied and didn't go to many tabling events. All the girls I talk to say they met really cool girls at tabling and now follow them on insta etc. I was wondering if my chances are lowered because I don't actually know any of the girls? Every girl I was looking at follows like 10-15 members from most sororities...

Don't worry about it. It may feel like a competition in this time leading up to recruitment, but it is truly about finding a place you belong and amongst girls that you admire to be more like. Each chapter looks for different qualities in pnms - all good qualities but all different. The tabling is more for pnms to become aware of the presence of each chapter on campus. Actives rely heavily on the days during recruitment to get to know pnms and learn more about what makes each girl special, more so than tabling. So you are at a disadvantage. Just try not to worry too much about other pnms and try to be yourself. As cheesy as it sounds, it's the best way to end up in the chapter that's the best fit for you, which is all that matters. :)

So I'm not at a disadvantage? Do I still have the same chances as the girls who have 10-15 actives following them?

Yes, sorry, that's what I meant: you are not at a disadvantage. Following actives does not influence the actives' opinions of pnms and their values. We want to know the real you, not the Instagram or Facebook version. Again, the tabling events are more for the pnms to be introduced to the actives and the different chapters, rather than the other way around. You will be fine!

Also, the actives aren't actually allowed to build relationships with PNMs during Fall semester so if they followed them back on Instagram that's a violation of Panhellenic rules :/

I followed some cool girls met back and I know my sisters did too, could we get in trouble for that? I wish Panhellenic let us know before and made sure actives didn't because I see where one girl could get the impression we are being impartial but that's not true I just thought she seemed really cool and I would mind getting to know her better and later having her join that's just me though if I met someone I liked more during rush I'd probably go with them instead

The rules were a little confusing, but what about the people who are RAs, OLs, or have an on campus job where they work with PNMs? I feel it's a little unfair and silly to deny someone who you may be helping guide through their first semester a simple follow back on IG or what not. As long as you aren't actively hanging with them or influencing them in any way. It's just tricky because other women from other chapters may see someone following a PNM, but they don't know the full story. I'd like to assume best intent from our wonderful Panhellenic community. This is new for everyone and it's impossible to avoid every single PNM for 5 months.

I wish Panhellenic gave us that rule too they weren't very clear. You're not going to get in trouble because so many people do it but next time they should decide if that's allowed

Don't you think you're being bias by following a girl you barely know on instagram? Would you pick her over other girls you dont follow? I haven't followed any girls back so they didn't get the wrong idea...

See I didn't follow any girls back either. Honestly I think if you followed a girl that you met at tabling and didn't actually have a class or something with her then you should get in trouble. You're pretty much giving her the wrong idea that she can get into your house even though she met you once and that you want her.
