wondering

by: Also confused

I have most of the same questions as the person below me as I am a transfer and wasn't able to go to the meeting so I never met my rho gamma and I never got sent any info. Does anyone know when the pnm meeting is on the 25th? All transfers also have a new student meeting on the 25th so I'm hoping they figured out how to have both and not interact otherwise that would really suck

Hey! Did you sign up through registration last semester? The registration due date was in November 2016. If you did and couldn't go to the meeting I'd suggest e-mailing the head of Recruitment Panhellenic and asking them! Also, a little side note: I transferred and I didn't go to the new student meeting and didn't miss a thing :)

Did you join a sorority after transferring? Was it harder as a transfer? Or did you still get the house you liked the most or did you get cut a lot? People are saying it's harder for transfers because everyone else has had a chance to talk to the girls and get to know them already.

Not a transfer, but as a sophomore active, I can tell you we hardly know everyone. Heck, I don't think I personally know anyone rushing as it's mostly freshman! So don't worry about that. If you do know someone in a sorority, obviously they can vouch for you, but one active can't get you a bid. If anything, being a transfer might make you more memorable (which is a good thing).

Do you suggest I mention I'm a transfer? Or just not say anything at all?

You don't have to bring it up, but if it comes up, no need to hide the fact that you're a transfer! A common question is - "Why Chapman?" - and you can work it in there. Talk about how Chapman is different (especially from your previous school), what is offered to your major, and what you hope to gain from becoming part of Chapman's Greek community. No need to come up with some speech level answers: speak from the heart. It's just a conversation. ;)

I went through recruitment as a junior transfer last year and honestly didnt feel I was treated any different because of it. I prefed/was prefed by both house I was most interested in and ultimately got a bid from my #1 choice! Just bring your genuine self to the table and you'll be just fine, good luck!
