The school hates the Greek life scene. Virtually no open parties except for a few select weekends a year (Halloween, welcome weekend, etc). School itself has fallen off and is actually going into debt. Bob Davies is on his way out as he knows it’s a sinking ship. If you got into state or really any other school I’d go there. CMU will be bankrupt in 15 years tops.

Greeks here are absolutely insufferable. Makes living in mt pleasant an even worse experience somehow. Incredibly racist and a LOT of hidden assault cases. Avoid.

Being a current student at cmu, Greek life has fallen off a little bit from its glory days. It’s still fun to party here and the parties are still huge, just only at the right frats.

I've been at CMU for four years and in that time I've seen many changes in the Greek system and overall party atmosphere in general. No, CMU Greek life is not the same as it is at Michigan State or U of M. Those are Big 10 schools. With that being said, CMU has the largest Greek life besides State and U of M. CMU has gone from a party school to not. As a freshman, you could walk up and down Main on weekends and every other house would be having an open party. Now, you walk up and down Main on welcome weekend and it looks like nothing's happening...You just have to know where to go cause they're underground. Frats come and go, popular or not. They all got strict enough so if you don't meet the rules you will be kicked off. Some frats are willing to risk that more than others, you can decide if it's worth it. Sororities here are different, you could be in the top sorority but still have best friends in the lowest. While a few try to pit "top and bottom houses" against each other, most girls in sororities couldn't care less about what chapter someone's in and it shows. Go with what makes you happy, because ultimately CMU Greek Life is a community, and that's something the Big 10 schools don't have.

Between 9-10% of the CMU Undergraduate population are members of Social Greek Life organizations. In Fall 2019, ~150 men receive bids from fraternities. Growth of the community is average, could be claimed as "plateaued out ". In 2017, IFC hosted the expansion of a new Colony, Chi Phi, and this colony has been growing since. However in 2018, IFC hosted the expansion of another fraternity and the fraternity failed to gather enough interested men to successful start. Greek Housing is nothing special. S.Main Street and the surrounding blocks are where most organizations have their houses. Each Fraternity is responsible for their own housing, so larger and older fraternities usually have the larger houses at better locations. Mount Pleasant is a smaller town, so don't expect fraternity houses to rival MSU or UofM houses. Members of the Greek Community are involved all over campus, however, the Greek Community as a whole is limited on its community involvement. The Councils are currently working on outreach and creating different events such as "Greeks Clean the Streets", and "IFC Tye-Dye" events. Our largest event is "Greek Week". Your social scene depends on your personal preferences and the social behavior of your organization. But, you will always see Greeks at the bars Tuesday-Saturday. No Comment on "Attractiveness&qu ot;. You are able to find your type of Guy or Girl within the community, some types are more prevalent in certain organizations than others. Average Fraternity Size is 35-55 members. Average Sorority size 55-75 members. The limited hazing within the fraternity side of the community is mainly conducted by a small number of organizations. CMU administration has taken actions to remove these organizations from campus as quickly as possible. The CMU Club Sport teams haze more than any fraternity. There is not much competitiveness within the community on the fraternity side. Some organizations limit the number of new members per semester, so it could be competitive for that organization but the community is more focused on finding a good match for you than anything else.
