to rush or not to rush?
by: jennifer
Met a few girls attending CSULB in the fall like I am, they are going to "rush week", "recruitment"...sorry not really sure on the lingo here...but anyways they've been asking me to join them in rushing for a sorority house.
Quite frankly my views on sororities are nothing more than what Hollywood has depicted which as any sane human should know is not an accurate portrayal of how real organizations work outside a fictional setting.
So as I continue to do my research on sororities anyone mind telling me how rushing/recruitment works? When it begins? How to register? Or whatever the hell you do...
Or just tell me what the hell I'm letting these girls drag me into.
Gracias!

I'm in a fraternity so I'm not sure exactly the dates for rush but it is usually right after the first week of school. And I'm not sure exactly how it works, but if you call the greek or panhellenic office they should know.
you might as well try, it isn't that expensive to go through the rush process and you might like it. a few girls are the hollywood version of sororities but most of them are really mellow chill and cool.

The link above is the registration form. It is $40 if you register before August 28.
There are seven Panhellenic Sororities. They are different but all very good. We really don't have a ranking system, because all sororities offer something unique. I suggest giving it a try. I can't tell you how many women aren't your "typical sorority girl," but LOVE being a part of a sorority. If you don't like it, you can always drop, no harm no foul. I have a feeling you will be pleasantly surprised. You only live once, might as well give this a try.
Good Luck!!!!

I never thought I'd be in a sorority and I too got dragged into the process. Being in a sorority has been one of the best decisions I made, and I have no regrets at all. There are one or two girls in my house that are sorta typical sorority girls, but most are really chill and "normal" people who just want to help each other grow and develop. Good luck

Be prepared to have your self-esteem crushed...I went through rush last fall and got dropped by every sorority and it still hurts really bad when I think about it. Someone told me that there are so many girls that go through that there isn't enough room for all of them to be able to join, so a lot of girls are cut by everyone. I don't know if this is the truth or if they were just trying to make me feel better.

Good thing for her is that Jennifer is such a common name, if it is her real name, considering she has no idea about sororities she probably didn't know not to use real names. I'm sure OP will be fine.
But they're right refrain from using identfying information.
