recruitment blues

by:

I am a new freshman and was so excited for recruitment and wanted Alpha Phi so badly. I only wanted them and I didn't get in. I now see their new members and the members posting all over instagram and all I can think is I wish I was one of them.

The process of recruitment is to insure that every potential new member gets into one of the eight Panhellenic sororities. All of them are great. Each house picks to see if you are potential sister, if your morals and values allign, if you are a good fit for their sisterhood etc. There are so many women participating in recruitment and they have quotas. Not everyone gets into their first choice. Try to enjoy the sorority that you are in because those women chose you, saw something special about you, and genuinely want you there with them. It’s take a while to build friendships and become a strong sisterhood. Try to at least give it a chance. If you honestly don’t fit in with your sorority than you can depledge before initiation and go through recruitment again next year in the fall.

I'm sorry that your recruitment experience did not see you receiving a bid to Alpha Phi or any other sorority. It's unfortunate when PNMs state that they only want one organization, because too often it doesn't work in their favor.
Since you've shared that you are feeling sad, I'd recommend that you stop viewing Alpha Phi's social media immediately. Concentrate on your school work and earning the best grades possible. Join a club or two and make connections there.

If you do decide to participate in recruitment again, please do not limit yourself to one or two groups.

dang I feel sorry for this person. I actually dropped alpha Phi the first day, cause they weren't my jam, but I really like a lot of the girls in alpha phi. they're no better or worse than any other sorority. all the sororities have fun. I don't think any sorority is going to want a person who is all stalking them like this.

Hey girl! If you’re still interested in joining a sorority, four of the organizations on campus are still recruiting. AOII, Tri Delta, Sigma Kappa, and ZTA. Just reach out and give them a chance!

Seriously? Why would anyone want a person so pathetic that they are stalking a sorority? OP needs considerable help. REALLY!!!! I feel sorry for her, but I don't want her in my sorority.

It doesn't seem like the original poster isn't interested in any other Panhellenic sororities. She seems only interested in joining Alpha Phi. They are a great organization, but they didn't offer her a bid. Maybe another sorority took an interest in her as a potential new member and offered her a bid, but she had Alpha Phi as her only choice on preference night. Sorority members are going to want someone who aligns with their values and who will fit into their sisterhood. Best advice is go to a COB event for one of the sororities that she wanted or go through fall recruitment again next year. There is still no guarantee that all potential new members will get into their first choice sorority or receive a bid from any of the houses during recruitment .
