sorority gpa information?

by:

Where can I find info on sorority GPA stats? I can't seem to find anything about academics online.
Or maybe a better question is what sororities have the highest GPA and have strong academic records? What is the average GPA in these chapters?

If you are so small minded that you would join a sorority based on something as arbitrary and unimportant as GPA, then you probably aren't suited for sisterhood.

I am looking to join a sisterhood that is supportive in all areas, including academics. If that is an issue then maybe sorority life isn't for me. Sorry to offend

I hAVE A SIGNIFICANT LEARNING difference and school is very hard for me. I work hard and still really only get Cs. It makes me sad that someone would reject my friendship based on my gpa.

GPA has nothing to do with how academics person is. If a sorority has a super high GPA it means that the sorority is filled with women who major in 1) Communications 2) Criminal Justice 3) Theater Arts.

High GPA often means women take easy classes and don't challenge themselves or get out of their comfort zone.

If you do go through rush, I suggest meeting the women and getting a feel for who they are as people and not just meaningless numbers (i.e. GPA, bank account, weight etc.)

I'm going through recruitment soon. I have a good GPA, but that's mostly because my mom is really good friends with our school principal and teachers know better than to give me bad grades.
It's not that I'm not smart, but I never had to really try that hard, cause of my mom's connections. So I do agree that GPA is sort of meaningless. I mean look at the recent scandals. That should prove that it's all a farce.

I had it easy in high school too, but it’s different in college. The classes will be more fun, you’ll get to pick and choose professors, and set your own schedule. My advice is don’t take 8a.m. classes. You should care about your grades because that is the point of being in college. It’s purpose is to graduate and make something of yourself. You are going to have to keep up your grades at a minimum level for the chapter in order participate in what ever sorority that you are in. You may not be required to have a 4.0 of course, but you’ll still need to have decent grades. Most sororities have study hours required for sisters. Seriously It’s not that bad though.

Grades are not "the point of college."
Hopefully authentic learning is the point of college. If you are going to classes just to get a certain grade, you are really missing out on the point of learning.

Hopefully we go to college to gain some skills that we can use in real life. Software engineers make a lot of money because they actually have a SKILL set.

RE: @Well Informed Greek I never said grades are the most important aspect of college. I just meant that good grades should be a priority for all students and Yes I agree with you that learning is the main purpose of higher education. :)

I'll answer your question:

The houses with the most academic vibe are AOPi, DZ without any question.

Welcome to CSULB. Panhellenic is happy to have you! When you go through recruitment, I suggest just focusing on where you feel most comfortable. All sororities have women who are super academic and women who party and women who do both. Everyone in a sorority already has a minimum GPA, so you don't need to worry about joining a group that isn't academic. For the most part, this is a really academic school, and people get pretty good internships and jobs after college if they want to. Good luck in recruitment. You'll do fine.

Wanted to extend a welcome to CSULB and that I hope you consider participating in recruitment.
IMO one of the benefits of joining one of our NPC sororities is that you are likely to have other women who are in your classes and possibly in your major. The older members should be able to give some advice regarding their experiences with different professors, TAs, classwork, exams etc..Your alumnae can also be your advisors for your post graduation life and a good source for networking.
Good luck to you with recruitment.

just avoid Gamma Phi Beta, and Alpha Phi, and you'll be fine with finding other academic girls in your house.

This is mostly true. Those are the two houses that are most known for partying, but they have ok gpa cause they are full of communications majors.

This is the order I see as the most academically oriented sororities:

1) AOPi
2) Delta Zeta
3) Tri Delta
4/5) Zeta Tau Alpha and Delta Gamma (tied)
6) Sigma Kappa
7) Alpha Phi
8 Gamma Phi Beta

That is just my opinion. Go through recruitment and make up your own mind.
