my rush story
by: MY STORY
I've been out of college a couple of years so I can objectively tell my story:
I was a transfer student from a local community college. I already knew a lot about the sororities. I didn't really see myself as a sorority girl, but I gave it a try. I really liked Alpha Phi, but I heard that they cut girls who are juniors. I don't regret that choice, because it gave me a chance to spend extra time at a sorority I probably would have dropped. I will never know if they would have dropped me or not, but I'm okay with that. I still really like a lot of girls in Alpha Phi, but as a junior transfer, I know I did the right thing dropping.
I ended up dropping Gamma Phi Beta after Day 2, cause I liked them a lot, but as a 21 year old, I didn't see myself in that sorority, even though they have older girls and are really cool. Again, I don't know if they dropped me or not.
On the second day I also dropped DZ cause I'm not super academic, and I didn't want pressure to nail the best internship and get a 4.0 every semester.
People thought I was crazy for dropping the top 3, but I have no regrets. They are great sororities buy not for me.
So I chose a sorority that is consider "lower middle tier." And I have no regrets. I just felt that I could be myself in this sorority, and I even met my fiancé at a social event.
So there is my story.
I really recommend going in and finding the best fit for you. Once you are in, nobody cares about tiers. All the sororities get along really well, and it is a nice place to be. I still hang with my sorority sisters and am so glad I joined.
Best of luck in Rush.

Best advice to anyone who is considering sorority recruitment. Thank you for sharing MY STORY.

Glad you found your house. Everything you said was your interupation of what house was a good fit for you. One thing you didn’t mention was each sorority has a gpa requirement. Everyone knows DZ has the highest gpa requirement but it is not 4.0. Glad you found your home and don’t have any regrets. Everyone should come with an open mind and find their own process. College is the time you can step out of your comfort and challenge yourselves. Best advice from my HS teacher.
Hope everyone finds their home!

Yes. True. As far as DZ and GPA, of course it isn't a 4.0, but I do agree that they put way too much emphasis on GPA - it's just a number girls. RELAX!
