Is Sigma Nu or Delta Chi a good back up if I can’t ge
by: CP2026All my friends tell me that Lambda Chi is the top fraternity at Cal Poly but also the most selective and hardest to get a bid from. I will be a frosh this fall. If I don’t make the cut at Lambda then is Delta Chi or Sigma Nu the best back up plan and are they still OK will I be embarassed wearing their letters.

Actually Delta Upsilon has surpassed both those houses and is considered #2 behind Lambda Chi. They have a new fraternity house and have gotten really selective the past few years and moved into the #2 position and jump frogged both Sigma Nu and Delta Chi Andy others behind Lambda Chi

All 3 r top but with Lambda you have to also be “hot” which of course you can’t control. The other houses if you have a good personality you can look like the hunchback of Notre Dame and still get a bid at Lambda even if you have a goodbye personality if they don’t think you can’t pull they will pass on you.

Lambda should be your goal, they have been top house and most prestigious fraternity to belong to but also the most selective, for an average joe you probably won’t get a serious consideration, Lambda probably bids less that 20% of guys that rush them . DU and DX are the best backups but no where near comparable. SN and Phi Psi are dying and in a free fall

phi psi is middle tier at best
snu is going downhill but i wouldnt exactly say freefall. theyre still one of the top houses in slo. just not as good as they were a few years ago

Any has been pulling some questionable pc of late and I agree DU has gotten a lot more selective and now one of the top houses at cp

This will be my 4th year. I noticed over those 4 years Lambda has always been the fraternity that all Sororities would pick first as far as who to have a function with. DU my freshman year were coming up the ladder but were not top tier. DU has really upped their game and been pulling some hot PC so if Lambda is not available most would now go for DU

Yep If we couldn’t get our first Choice Lambda our consolation prize would be DU, DU has risen to the top and is considered more prestigious than SNU, DX, Phi Psi and all the rest of the middle tier fraternities.
