Yes. Tech's recruitment is competitive in its own way. It's not the SEC, but like you said, every girl is smart and accomplished. Unless your grades really suck, that's not a "standout factor".

Honestly, what's most important is that you need to know how to make a good impression. There is such a thing as a "typical tech girl", what the stereotype is based on. Weirdos. Some of them rush. Don't be that girl that talks about weird/inappropriate things during recruitment.

Normal conversation, look cute, brush your hair and teeth, put on a little makeup, be engaged, be happy to be at the houses, talk, don't just give yes/no answers. And be nice, cause even if you don't like a house, that could change by the end of the week, and even if it doesn't, actives have friends in other houses and they talk. If there's a girl who's a major jerk to actives in one house, other houses will hear about it.
