cpc rush regulations
by: Gtfo CPC
Why is it that CPC puts so many rules in place during rush including restrictions on social media, promoting your sorority, what you can say during rush, and even talking to potential rushees? In my opinion this forces the rushees to either ask guys about sorority reps, or base their decisions off of incredibly restricted conversations (because we all know that a lot of sorority life has to do with booze, beds and boys).
We've also been informed that rush will change in the next few years to not even feature the houses, but instead be in the student center. This will create a completely false atmosphere for the rushees. This is completely the wrong direction when it comes to providing an accurate idea of what each house is actually like and therefore the best got for the PNMs. So that begs the question, what is the point of all these restrictions? Just for the irrelevant houses to get a "fair shot"?

I hadn't heard that recruitment was going to change and be in the student center. That's absolutely ridiculous and stupid. The only schools that do that are schools without houses. We should be able to recruit in our houses.
But, I guess the restrictions are so it's an "even playing field" for the groups. Acting as an equalizer. Recruitment is conducted this way pretty much everywhere, except our restrictions are stricter than most places.
But I completely agree that it's a false atmosphere. If a quiet, studious PNM joins a chapter that she didn't know was the hard partiers, it's unlikely that she'll stay and either continue through initiation or eventually she'll drop out and probably won't be a productive member. That hurts retention rates and makes groups look bad because they couldn't say "Yes, our social aspect is extremely important".
Further, the restrictions are also dumb, because while our chapters do a good job of updating their websites, every PNM coming through is focused on social media like facebook, like twitter, like tubmlr, like instagram. And wHEN PNMs can't find chapters on social media, they may not rush. Which weakens the greek system because we could be losing some great girls.
And, CPC should be promoting greek life and recruitment all over facebook and everything to encourage more girls to rush. It's been completely dead all summer, and no promotion has happened and that's probably why recruitment numbers are significantly lower this year

CPC won't even explain their reasoning behind these rules. The answer to any 'why' question from chapter leadership about recruitment is 'idk because CPC said so'. They regulate the most ridiculous things that don't even matter at all. Like bid cards. God forbid let them be cute.
They also took away Bid Day this year.
Thanks CPC luv ya. You're totes killin it.
#5by: bid day
Well we are still having bid day. The girls will all get their bids at like 5:45 from their pi chis and everyone opens them together. The only crappy thing is that still only a small portion of the chapter can be at the campanile for the new members to run to.
That sucks. If we're going to do it where everyone opens their bids together the whole chapter should be allowed to be there for girls to run to like they do at other schools.
The other issue I see with this method is what about the girls who are unhappy with their bids and need time to contemplate accepting.
But yes bid cards should be allowed to be pretty. And there used to be actual invites for pref round and rounds before that. Now its sucky pieces of paper. CPC also regulates the food that can be served onnpref night and there are some ridiculous rules about that as well.

The CPC thing is hilarious. Allegedly this "no frills recruitment" process means something like sitting in suits and interviewing in the student center in a few years--which does not even out the playing field, it in fact gives the prettier girls an unfair advantage when others of us could use assets (such as our house) to sell our chapter.
If CPC were to actually get involved in something BENEFICIAL to PNMs and the rush process, they'd prohibit the whole hiding-half-the-chapter-in-the-attic deal that Phi Mu and Zeta have perfected so well. THAT is what is giving the PNMs an unfair look at chapters.

No frills recruitment is a national panhellenic mandate which is why there are such strict rules on things like food. The focus of recruitment is supposed to be on conversation and sisterhood, but not being able to tour houses is something entirely different that sounds ridiculous. I had never heard of it.
