First and foremost, rush. And pledge, in the fall if you can. Unless you're an athlete, social life at tech sucks unless you're greek. If you make a bad call the first time and really hate your house, just drop and do it again in the spring. Unlike girls, you get a do-over.

General advice:
-Wear boat shoes, loafers or tennis shoes with khaki shorts and a polo. No cargos. Seriously just do it.
-Pick a few talkative, social guys from your hall and go with them. Don't go in a big group or you'll get lost.
-Don't try to act cool to get a bid, you'll come off as a douche
-Be as chill and relaxed as possible, talk about sports, classes, girls, current events, and ask questions about the chapter.
-Do not ever take a bid on the spot or while drunk. Sleep on it for at least one night

Conclusion:
If you dress normal and can hold your weight comfortably in a conversation, you can get a bid pretty much anywhere. Seriously, it is that easy.
