Oldest Frats at GT

by: John

Hey, I've been rushing around a bit this summer and I'm just trying to get straight what the oldest frats at GT are...so far I've got:

ATO
SAE
SNU
PDT
KA
KS

These aren't in order I don't think but just wondering if there are any other houses I should look at that are old with good connections?

This list looks right to me. Oldest houses on campus with best connections and solid pull/parties. You'll have a good time any of these places.

Pi kapp and SX are also pretty old. Established at tech in the early 1900s I believe

ATO KS SAE PKA were the first 4 groups at tech. Idk the order, pretty sure SN wasn't founded here until the 20's along with Fiji and SigEp I think.

ATO is the oldest, and then I think SAE was a year or two later. There were several founded before 1900.

It went ATO, SAE, KS, SN, KA, Phi Delt, Chi Phi, Pike, Sig Ep, Pi Kapp, Beta all before the 1920s. Then in the 20s a bunch more were founded

Most well known success story from a Ga Tech fraternity is probably Waffle House, which was founded by an ATO, is still privately held, and has many ATOs who have made their careers there.

Paul Brown, CEO of Arby's and Inspire was also an ATO at Tech.

Golf legend Bobby Jones was an SAE at Ga Tech.

James Robinson, former CEO of Amex was a Chi Phi at Tech.

Charles "Wick" Moorman, former CEO of Norfolk Southern, was a TKE.

Many notable alums at Tech were in fraternities. Those are the ones I have heard about through the grapevine that have reached national recognition. Sure there are others. Comment if you know any.

I'm sure the notable alums from a chapter would make all the difference in your experience there.

Connections are huge in the real world. Notable alums definitely make a difference.

I was being sarcastic. The 'notable alumni' is not any kind of metric for how to choose a fraternity. Don't rush for contacts, rush for brotherhood. It's the next 4-5 years that matter and the close friendships. If you go to Tech you will have contacts and doors will open. Your fraternity brothers in a chapter with you NOW, and who they know, will help you open doors, not an alumnus several years removed. Don't think that a frat alum guy is going to prefer a rando member of his old chapter.

SigEp was founded here at tech in 1907, not that it really matters because alumni networks from back then have long been gone. Choose somewhere you like the current brothers and that will open doors later down the line.
