Which frat should I rush in the spring?

by: Angus

I didn't do fall rush since I didn't know much about the different houses. I think I want to rush in the spring. Not super athletic, so I don't think being in a frat that is very focused on sports would be right. Decent looking, smart and from Cali. Any recs?

Since you’re from cali I’d probably avoid the more traditional southern frats (SAE, KA, SX)

I’d say PKA, Beta, Fiji, TKE, KS, ATO are all good bets

SX hasn't been southern for a VERY long time.

Im happy you didnt list ATO as southern either.

Even SAE isnt very southern anymore, theyre all in state but super suburban.

KA is the last "southern" fraternity and even then they are super small.

Most of the top 8 minus TKE and Beta prioritize in state guys when they bid but you still have a chance with everyone.

Aren't these the most Southern athletic frats tho? Pike, KA? I'm not nerdy. More urban. But not a jock. Someone told me Figi, but I see here they are having problems, so that's out.

Pike is athletic but i wouldnt call them southern either. The truth is Tech's demographics are changing heavily, not as many in state kids anymore and even then most of them are suburban guys.

The fraternities that are usually 100% or mostly in state are SAE, ATO, Fiji, PKA, KS, SX, SN, KA. No one is really considered country anymore except KA.

As far as rush goes, the larger or stronger houses have lots of local kids due to summer rush. This is Tech though and 40 percent are out of state. I would rule out KA because super southern and FIJI is having issues right now so I would not pledge there. Rush everywhere and see if you fit in.

Do out of staters join fraternities? Seems like a big deal for the Georgia guys, southerners. Maybe true for some big midwestern schools. But definitely seems like a regional thing.

Thanks. Any others seem like a fit? These seem like the top houses. I'm wondering if some of the smaller houses tend to be more mixed or more local.

You should rush without general biases, but I see where you're coming from. If you want to hear about athletics, where people are from, and involvement, ask. It's pretty easy to tell if a fraternity is focused on one thing in particular if a lot of brothers talk about it. My guess is mid and low mid houses are more diverse because they can't afford to recruit just one type of person.
I wouldn't want to be the only OoS student in a mostly in-state fraternity just like I wouldn't want to be the engineering/sciences/design major in a majority business fraternity

As far as smaller houses to check out I'd look at Sig Ep, OX, Pi Kapp, maybe Chi Phi? All has fairly diverse brotherhoods that have solid events and reputations IMO.
I also wouldn't worry about being out of state. you'll fit in somewhere you just have to rush around and find it

I would check out Delta Chi. Sounds like it might be a good fit for you.

Only if you get wet dreams at the thought of a 4.0
