is rush worth it for new freshman? (females)

Hey guys, I'm really excited about going to Tech next year! I was wondering how you guys felt about Greek Life and sororities.
I'd be really awesome to have a group of close girl friends who I have things in common with. Not to mention, the partying would be a perk too. I'm worried that if I don't rush, I won't have girl friends who are "normal" and that if I do rush, I'll be missing out on social events with non-Greek people.
I'm definitely leaning towards rushing, but I was wondering what y'all thought. Thanks :)

Definitely rush. Being in a Greek organization expands your circle of friends, rather than limits it. You will have the friends in your house plus you will meet people in other houses and some of them will become your friends, and you will certainly have friends that you meet from your dorm and classes and other groups you may join. You can be social with anyone you want to. I didn't rush until my sophomore year because I thought I'd just look around and see what was what first, and I really wish I had done it earlier.

Same as what the person said above, you should definitely rush and join a sorority here in the fall! I also waited till my second year to rush and I regret not doing it freshman year. You can still hang out with girls in other sororities or girls who aren't in sororities, in fact in my sorority it's totally common for girls to bring their friends to our events even if their friends aren't in Greek life. We have such a diverse group of girls in GT Greek life and almost everyone has friends outside their sorority. :)

If you know you wouldn't accept a bid somewhere, please don't go to their pref if you are asked. That would screw over the house and other PNM's. Please don't go to any house for pref if you know for sure that you would NOT accept a bid from them.
