spring rush

by:

Hey! So I really wanted to join a frat during fall rush but I decided to stop rushing due to time commitments. I definitely think I'm going to rush again in the Spring. So... I have just a few questions that I hope you guys can like help me with.

1) Do you have to drink/smoke to be get a bid/not get dropped by places like Pike, Pi Kapp, SAE, KA, etc....

2) I am a vegetarian and I'm concerned that if I join, I may not be able to remain vegetarian because the houses force you to do some stuff during pledgeship, is that true?

3) Any tips on the overall rush experience? I don't know if I should go in with a certain attitude for frats or if I should be open minded and just chill?

4) Lastly, do people look down upon spring rushes?

There are brothers who don't drink in every house. Or smoke. No problem.
If you tell them you are vegetarian, or keep kosher, or whatever, your choices will be respected.
Be yourself. No attitudes, please. And stop calling them frats.
Spring rushees carry no stigma whatsoever. A spring pledgeship is a little different because your pledge class will be way smaller, like you may even be the only one, but again no stigma in the fraternity or on campus.
Don't stress. Find a group you feel comfortable with and that you would like to call "brothers".

speaking from experience of both being a spring pledge and having one of my pledge brothers not drink/smoke at all, there are definitely places that will 100% respect your decision and you should have no problem. Being vegetarian is also not a big deal at all and shouldn't affect anything
