by: Thoughts on theta?

With theta coming to campus this fall I'm predicting that they'll pass up alpha gam/alpha chi within 1 or 2 years. it only took alpha phi a few years to do it, but I think that theta can rise faster because they're stronger in the south.

And with more and more girls coming through rush every year (and higher quality girls) the lower tier chapters will have to fight to get the good girls. Theta could easily steal some top prospects away.

But idk... Theta is not as strong as AXO & Alpha Gam in the south. Their only good chapter is at UGA

You did not pass up anyone. Nice try.

Like everyone, Theta has strong chapters and weak chapters. They're a lot bigger in Texas than in Georgia. I wouldn't really say they're weaker than AXO or AGD in the South. But who knows how things will go with the colony. I'm really curious to find out though and to see how it'll be to have 8 sororities on campus.

Alpha gam & alpha chi both have strong presences at a lot of large schools in the south. Theta, not so much. We'll see

Have y'all seen AGDs chapter at UGA? They've been bottom tier there for years. And even though they have a big presence in the south, most of their chapters are lower mid or bottom tier across the board. Theta definitely has a better reputation around here. Also there are a ton of Theta legacies in Georgia because of the UGA chapter

It's definitely possible. It depends on how strong of a colonizing class they get and what they do about a house/how fast they start building. I wouldn't expect them to come on campus and be #1, but it'll be interesting to see what personality the chapter develops. It's very strange though that they haven't been tabling/promoting on campus and that they don't have a website or anything up yet, because that's like the standard for what happens with new colonies, at other schools.

How does a house "rise"? What makes a house "top"? "Top" is a different thing at different schools within their greek systems, so what is "top" here for a sorority?

People can say tiers don't matter all they want and there's no difference between all the houses, but it's no coincidence that three sororities (and I'm sure you know which ones I'm talking about) have the highest rates of PNMs wanting to return during rush, exclusivity, the prettiest girls, and most popularity with fraternities.

You can call it shallow but that's what makes the difference between top, middle, and bottom houses.

No, actually I'm not sure which three you mean. I don't know the rates of who wants to return or who is exclusive or who is most popular with fraternities. How do you tell?

A house "rises" when it has attractive girls that are socially active and like to party. The top three OP is talking about is Zeta, ADPi, and then either Phi Mu or Alpha Phi probably. An easy way to tell is just see how many mixer/date night proposals each sorority gets.

So how can someone see how many mixer/date night proposals a sorority gets? Is there a way to find out?

Oh dear Lord, chill with the self-promoting Alpha Phi. You are not, have never been and while never be 3rd. You're 5th, at best.

The "Top 3" are historically ADPi, Zeta and Phi Mu.

There's no way to find out who gets mixer proposals from who but generally you'll see that top houses mix with the top frats

Okay, so I now need to ask what makes a "top" frat? How do you tell? (Please don't say the ones that mix with "top" sororities LOL, I'm really trying to figure this out.)

A top frat is just like the guys who were "cool" in high school, like sporty/attractive/social guys for the most part who all gravitate towards each other.

Phi mu might recruit top 3 but certainly aren't top when it comes to mixer invites

I would agree with the comment about Phi Mu and their mixer invites. From what I've heard from their members, it's not really a priority with them. ADPi and ZTA - and even some other groups - seem to feel that their prestige is linked to the frats they mix with. I'm really not saying that's good or bad. It's certainly true that the frats a sorority mixes with determines some people's perception of that group. Some PNMs may feel it's really important. It just seems Phi Mu is not as concerned with it. And some people may prefer that perspective.

Not sure it's Phi Mu's preference to not get mixer invites. I do know they're event policies are pretty strict so that may be why.
