They closed in 1997. Usually closures are due to hazing or low numbers. Why does it matter? Maybe one day they will recolonize their chapter here

I was told that they eventually just had low numbers and couldn't keep up in recruitment. AXID colonized the following year.

The chapter disbanded in '97 due to weak recruitment and retention of sisters; nobody wanted to join, nobody wanted to do mixers with them, and nobody in Phi Mu really "represented" on campus snymore. I suppose the best term is they stopped "pulling their weight" which is ironic because during their final years on campus, a majority of the dozen or so sisters remaining really lived up to their nickname "Phi Moo." Yes, that's mean because a few of the girls were sweet but, many of them were unfriendly or socially awkward. At that time, a majority of girls rushing wanted to be in stronger sororities with Alpha Phi, AOPi, and Chi-O being the most appealing. Somebody mentioned AXiD colonizing at GMU as Phi Mu died off but, that factor bears no relevance as they didn't technically take away anybody potential pledges of Phi Mu. At it's inception, AXiD was a different concept. Only a handful of the first batch of AXiD girls rushed prior or dropped out of other sororities at GMU or elsewhere however a majority of the charter members of AXiD never considered going Greek before and wanted to be a part of something new.
