Punishment for being in unofficial frat?
by: SigEperI wanna rush SigEp in the spring. What can happen if I pledge SigEp and the school finds out since they aren’t recognized? Can I get in any trouble? What about if I were to make it to active status and then they find out? Cool guys, but I don’t wanna be messin up my future.

I'd consider looking other places. Being in sip ep will offer you little to no value down the road. Being completeley unaffiliated with the school and nationals is not great. 1. you dont have access to the vast alumni network 2. Sig ep doesn't have to follow the school Hazing rules and regulations (yikes) 3. its legit just a club 4. you cant do any charity events. Rush a fraternity where you can actually wear letters and it means something

BU SigEp is all the bad parts of a frat with none of the lasting benefits. You’ll have to give up all your current friends to be “friends” with them. They’ll haze you hard. And maybe a few good parties. It is not worth it. There are other ways to get mistreated for less money if that’s your fetish. And there are no lifelong benefits since it is a fake chapter anyway.

This response has it right. SigEp has all the bad stuff of a frat with none of the good stuff. Choose a real recognized frat at BU if you’re gonna go through all that.

Sigep is involved in every sorority philanthropy, has their own philanthropy events, has date party and formal every semester, mixers with sororities, very active social schedule, and a genuinely fun group of guys, go where you fit my guy don’t listen to the other frats during rush say this bs they do it every semester because they’re scared of losing kids. At the end of the day what matters is the group of guys you surround yourself with in the moment the community and network you build for the next 4 years, that network within bu is going to be much stronger than having some national name associated with you which means almost nothing after you graduate. Trust me in 7 years some random delt that went to ASU will not care that you were in delt at bu.

Never once seen sig ep have a philanthropy event in all my time at bu. Trust me. Not being regulated by the school is a red flag. Frats are removed for a reason, don’t forget that. Being in sig ep means hiding your identity and why you are associated with, comes with stigma. Rush somewhere on campus.

Fraternity’s are for life, this simply isn’t true u less you join sig ep. Connections made here should last forever and be maintained through the alumni network and national events. You don’t get that with this chapter. Also not having an overhead regulatory agency ensues a whole slew of liability

sigep guys regularly wear their letters on campus and are proud to be in sigep, saying they have to “hide their identity” is actual bs

At the end of the day sigep will continue to grow and get fine men who build out an their alumni base, as someone mentioned having a Bu sigep alumni base will do much more for you than random kids down the line. Fraternity is for life as some squid said above but trust me 10 years from now you’ll reach out to guys who went through the same experience as you not some random kid from Arkansas. There is a reason sigep continues to get good pledge classes and there is a reason every fraternity on campus talks them down. Go through rush yourself and feel it out, if you are worried about this so much then don’t rush sigep lol they’ll happily pass you along to free bid delt

Trust me it’s a lot more fun than people in other frats make it out to be, you’re joining a group of guys you wanna be close with not some club you pay nationals to be about of. Talk to actual kids who went through the process during rush and feel it out for yourself don’t go on these forums to learn your information, if you’re scared of some friendly fun then go join sigma chi bud

Bahahah if it’s so friendly, then why do it in secret usually in a basement instead of out in the open (don’t tell me that jumping at every whim of an active is out in the open or that’s all there is bc we both know that isn’t all there is) ? “Friendly fun” dumbest thing I’ve heard.
