informal as junior

if most sororities arent doing informal for the spring and the ones who are are only doing it by referral/reaching out to ppl, realistically, could a rising junior (current sophomore) do informal in the fall and still get accepted or is it better to not even bother?

I know juniors who did informal in the fall and got bids. Go for it :)
