“spring recruitment” (all you need to know)

by: Honest

There is no such thing as “spring recruitment” or “formal recruitment in the spring.” It is know as COB or continuous open bidding. This is when a chapter has not met their quota “total alottment/chapter size recruitment” during formal recruitment (fall) or is projected to not meet that #. Not every chapter does this obviously because it is based on the numbers. Chapters can go through this for a number of reasons (example: members graduate, members drop, Chapter size isn’t big enough for reasons XYZ) however spring recruitment is a lot cheaper and a lot more relaxed as it is nothing like the formal recruitment process in the fall. Simply put, if a chapter is desperate and running low then you have a better chance of getting a bid because they need more members and money.

COB is based on chapter total, not quota. A sorority can make quota and still have to COB if enough girls graduated, transferred, or dropped since the last time they did spring.
