Hi everyone! I was just trying to see if Greek life here is very prominent. I am OOS from Alabama and just wanted to know how it is here. I know there are no official houses but is it still very sisterhood-ly and united? Is it similar to SEC schools but on a smaller scale? Thanks y'all

hey! sadly here, Greek life isn't as prominent as Alabama. It's more of a club here. Rush isn't really a formal event this year with values based recruitment. (In the past values based was still a little frilly) There's not many swaps, darties, or date parties. Also, zero game days. Greek life here tries to tailgate for soccer/basketball games but tbh it's not the same. Sisterhood is 50/50, some girls love it and get that sisterhood while the other half doesn't and hates it.

I will say though, all the houses we have here are top tier at Alabama. We have most of old row, even if they are low ranked here. I got offended when someone from Bama called me a Chi Omega, when they are actually top there. So if you transfer home, you'll be in a top house.

also pledge classes are gonna be 50-60 girls this year. Like max 80 if they had an influx of girls within the last 2 weeks to sign up

Yes it's very sisterly, I love it here. At places like Alabama, greek life is much larger and more competitive, but also very expensive. The giant pledge classes make it easier for cliques to form and for girls to feel left out. I would say we are very close knit despite not having houses. There's always opportunities to make friends and hang out with sisters if you get involved as much as you can!

Hello! Greek life at FGCU is definitely prominent on campus, and also still growing. As RTR refers to "rush" as a non-formal event, this person could not be more wrong. Values-based recruitment gives you chance to get to know and actually form meaningful connections to women that are just like you. Because of the way we do primary recruitment here, our sisterhoods in each organization are very strong. The only people who say their sisterhood is not strong, are people who did not go through the process with the right intentions. Yes, there is no housing but that keeps are dues low and gives us more of a reason to plan fun events and hang out with our sisters more often! Good luck to you, if you decide this process is for you!

At Bama, there is a long line of tradition and reputation factored in that just doesn't exist at fgcu. Relatively speaking, ALL of the sororities here are new, so "tiers" are based on more heavily on popularity with PNM's rather than old row vs new row. Although that information isn't public, it's more obvious to tell which chapters are more desirable as cuts are made throughout recruitment.
