all ladies going through recruitment:

by:

Here's something I wish someone would have told me during my first few weeks at Baylor: don't rush pi phi.

Pi phis are rockstars at recruiting. It's totally normal for 1 pi phi to be recruiting a group of 4 or 5 friends by herself.

The pi phi that's recruiting you and your friends will start by asking you guys to get froyo or Sonic. She'll invite you all to her house to hangout, which will become a regular thing. She'll invite you to movie nights, to make cookies, and to meet her guy friends. She'll parade you around SUB dinners to make sure every single pi phi knows you so that they'll love you when recruitment comes around (and so everyone knows you're all HER babies and that she should get credit for rushing you). She'll be the one that will pick you up from class at the BSB so that you don't have to walk back to Collins. She'll tell you to stock up on khakis over winter break because pi phis have to wear khakis while they're pledging. She'll bring you and your friends to Jones to study for finals because "that's where all the Greeks study" and she'll say that she can't wait for you to be Greek too. She'll be a genuinely great friend to you and the rest of your friends that first semester.

But remember what I said about how it's normal for a pi phi to recruit 4 or 5 girls herself? The problem is that almost EVERY pi phi recruits that many girls. So, if you do some quick math, it's impossible that every girl they're recruiting will get a bid. In reality only about 1 out of 4 of those girls will get a bid from pi phi.

I was one of those girls that opened her envelope on bid day and was absolutely shocked to see that it didn't say pi phi. The girl that rushed me had given me such a false sense of security by leading me to believe I was 100% going to be a pi phi, that I was honestly not that nervous during recruitment. She openly introduced me to her friends as her "future little".

I'm not saying that pi phi is a bad chapter--I love so many girls that are pi phis and they're truly an awesome group of girls. I just want to warn others to not go "all-in" on pi phi during the fall semester. I should have approached it with an open mind, because instead I was dead set on being pi phi and then bid day and the few months afterwards were SO hard because of that. I love my chapter now and I truly think every chapter has something great to offer. So please, save yourself some heartache and don't be "all in" on pi phi because it's a numbers game and many of you will feel crushed when you open your card on bid day.

Sweet Freshman... This is true of four or five sororities, maybe not to the extent of Pi Phi, but true. It's like the over recruit by numbers, let the rushee hang on to the last day fully believing they are in, and come bid day the rushed is surprised and heartbroken beyond measure! I've seen girls in terrible pain. The worst are the sororities that then the people who rushed the girls and falsely befriended them... Never get together with the girl(s) again!!!!! So, have 2 or 3 sororities open in your "heart" come rush. Truly... protect yourself and share this with your friends. You can't believe you are in until you get your bid card!

Something similar happened to my roommate, but with Chi O. But, the girls rushing her basically "dropped her" from their friend group that next week.... Never asked her to do anything with them. So, Yes! Believe us, it could happen to you... no matter how fun, wonderful, caring, loving, promising your experience is going now. You might not get the bid you want... Keep 3 to 4 sororities in mind. Don't just go out with one sorority now. Really, try to keep "in touch" with other sororities. Of course, wishing you your fav. sorority!

You should really try to get your name out to as many girls as possible. Not just the ones closest to you. In the end two girls can't get you into a sorority its a group decision

Now, this is a civil, helpful discussion. Good job to the girls who replied in such a helpful, caring way. Good luck, Freshman! I can't add much, just to say that all the sororities have something wonderful to offer you!
