Message to PNMs!!

Hi PNM!! A year ago I was in your shoes, so I wanted to share some of my advice and personal experience.

I went into rush with honestly, all the wrong intentions. I wanted a top house, and I wanted the status that I thought came with it. I went to Panny previews, and I began building connections with girls from several chapters since I didn’t want to put all of my eggs in one basket. As the fall semester went on, I started building close friendships with a certain sorority, let’s call this “sorority A”. I didn’t feel “rushed” by these girls, I genuinely felt supported and loved for who I was. They constantly told me that they wanted me to end up where I felt most at home and never said anything negative about another chapter. As the semester went on, I realized the conversations I was having with some of the “top” house girls were very different. They would talk bad about other sororities as well as other girls in their chapter. They often claimed how everyone wanted to be in their “top” house. It began to leave a sour taste in my mouth, but I still continued to rush them. By the time January came around and rush started, I ended up having a “top” house and “sorority A” on pref. As I preffed a house that night, I realized that I would much rather be surrounded with girls that genuinely care about me and have that true sisterhood instead of being perceived as popular with a bunch of girls who have superiority complexes. So I ended up in sorority A, and I couldn’t be happier!!

All that being said, don’t let stereotypes get in the way of finding true friendships and sisterhood. Those genuine relationships will last longer, and those girls will become life long friends. Have an open mind, give chapters a chance, and go where you feel most loved!! Good luck and don’t stress, this will be an amazing process if you have the right intentions :)
