"Sigma Alpha Epsilon, one of the oldest and largest U.S. college fraternities, said on Friday that it would eliminate its member initiation practices, following a number of hazing-related deaths and other incidents.
Starting Sunday, the fraternity with 14,000 undergraduate members across the country will end pledging, according to a statement from SAE."

This is a pretty big change for SAE to go through...
We are not talking about some new member education plan or some new anti-hazing policy.
This is the total and complete ending of the idea of pledgship....not just at a few chapters but at every single chapter of SAE in the nation.
SAE will never be the same.
#9by: yep
If this can happen to SAE it can happen to anyone.
Hell Fiji and Phi Delt have already gone "dry" nationally.
Meaning they can't have alcohol at any chapter housing or functions.
Now obliviously a lot of Fiji and Phi Delt chapters don't follow this rule...but still it shows where things are headed.

Y'all may be laughing at SAE now but they're one of the largest and best national fraternities, and I would be surprised if other fraternities follow suit in the next few years. This is bad for all of greek life.
This is most likely is a move to help keep nationals out of trouble with hazing lawsuits. However I'm sure most established and respectable chapters will continue to have an underground pledgeship even if they're "new members" on paper.

Phi Delt and Sigma Nu are dry, Fiji is conditionally allowed to have alcohol if they maintain over a 3.0 or something.
