new members: hazing
by: BuGreek
1. If someone physically hurts you, that is hazing
2. If someone does anything to make you feel threatened or embarrassed, that is hazing
3. If someone makes new members wear a uniform (COUGH COUGH KHAKI PANTS ON CERTAIN DAYS, those 110% pins everywhere) that is hazing.
4. If someone sets rules for new members ONLY but not for old members i.e. not walking on the grass, etc That is hazing.
5. If people make you drink, swallow a fish, run around in a bra and undies and have guys judge you, or do ridiculous things because you're a new member, that is hazing.
6. Being called a pledge or a baby ____ is hazing.
HAZING IS A FEDERAL CRIME Y'ALL.
If you are being hazed, report it to Tam_Dunn@baylor.edu

your delineation of the legal definition is exactly why hazing has become a bit of a meaningless joke of a word. The worst stuff that most fraternity chapters in the US in 2014 have to do are some calisthenics, pledge attire and manual labor. When you were younger and forced to do these things it was called athletic practice, a uniform, and chores. When you're a legal adult and someone has you do most of the same things at your own behest it's called hazing and is considered a crime. There was a time where this all made sense and things were out of control, but now avoiding the broad net of hazing is a difficult short of just handing membership to everyone who walks through the door.

Excusing hazing. Cute. That's not how a sister treats her new members.
