weight & sorority rush
by: A FreshmanI'm a freshman and I'm excited about rush. I've met some awesome people at the sub dinners. I am really worried about my weight though (because I'm about a size 12). Please let me know if I stand a chance of being considered for a sorority? I know that's sort of a hard question, but I would like appreciate some feedback so I can know what to expect during rush. (My friends say I'm nice, easy to get along with, fun to be around, and am pretty. But, of course, they are my good friends. I love love sports and dance, volunteering, and make good grades, if that helps with my question. ) Thank you!

My freshman year I was also a lit overweight and even though I was making lots of friends with sorority girls, I felt nervous about my weight being a factor in rush. I started a different way of eating (mostly nothing white) during the week and sometimes on Sundays and lost 15 pounds (it also made my skin clearer). I'm not telling you to lose weight because people should like you for who you are but I did this so I'd feel better about going through rush and my appearance in general. Things worked out great but that might have happened any way. Good luck!

Just want to say thank you for the replies. It will help me to be very realistic about the different factors that sororities may look at (no pun intended!;) The good thing is that I'm really enjoying the sub dinners and talking with different sororities and the members. I just hope that things will work out fine, 'cause I'm really excited about hopefully being in a sorority!

She was just trying to be truthful, not mean. Everyone judges people on their appearances. Not nice but a fact of life.
