weight & sorority rush

by: A Freshman

I'm a freshman and I'm excited about rush. I've met some awesome people at the sub dinners. I am really worried about my weight though (because I'm about a size 12). Please let me know if I stand a chance of being considered for a sorority? I know that's sort of a hard question, but I would like appreciate some feedback so I can know what to expect during rush. (My friends say I'm nice, easy to get along with, fun to be around, and am pretty. But, of course, they are my good friends. I love love sports and dance, volunteering, and make good grades, if that helps with my question. ) Thank you!

There are overweight girls in every sorority, some have more, but still. Girls are going to judge, they can't help it, but if you have a great personality and get to know the girls, they're not gonna care :)

If girls judge you solely off your weight, then those are girls you don't need.

My freshman year I was also a lit overweight and even though I was making lots of friends with sorority girls, I felt nervous about my weight being a factor in rush. I started a different way of eating (mostly nothing white) during the week and sometimes on Sundays and lost 15 pounds (it also made my skin clearer). I'm not telling you to lose weight because people should like you for who you are but I did this so I'd feel better about going through rush and my appearance in general. Things worked out great but that might have happened any way. Good luck!

I mean all sororities want girls that are very cute so it could bring you down a little because it could affect their imagine. Loose weight probably if you want a good sorority

I cannot believe you would say that. You are a terrible person.

I know girls in every sorority, no matter what shape and size. Get over yourselves. And to who posted this - just go to sub dinners and meet whoever you can :)

She was just trying to be truthful, not mean. Everyone judges people on their appearances. Not nice but a fact of life.

She said she's worried about her weight being a factor. It only makes sense that you could lose weight to take away some stress. No one is telling her to lose weight, just saying it might make her feel better about rush.

Just want to say thank you for the replies. It will help me to be very realistic about the different factors that sororities may look at (no pun intended!;) The good thing is that I'm really enjoying the sub dinners and talking with different sororities and the members. I just hope that things will work out fine, 'cause I'm really excited about hopefully being in a sorority!
