Questions about Emory Greek Life
by: Incoming freshman
Hi! So I’m an incoming international freshman from Europe who just received my offer early to attend Emory! I will 100% be rushing and hope to join Greek life.
I had a few questions and was wondering if anyone would be able to answer them?
I’m just wondering which fraternities and sororities mix with each other and if it’s strictly paired like in some other universities.
I was also wondering if there were any sororities/fraternities to stay away from.
Also, how often does Greek life interact with students not in Greek life? Since Emory is in the south of the US, I’ve heard there is more seriousness to southern Greek life.

I’m a student in Greek life. One of the most unhappy campuses in America. The school is trying to banned Greek life which is the only good part of the school. If u have other options to attend college even if they are worse schools I suggest going their. This place is truest awful and u could be making the worst mistake of ur life.

Don’t listen to the first two comments, they’re being satirical.
The frats and sororities can be split into top tier (sae, ATO, KS || kappa, theta, tridelt) mid tier (ZBT, Sx, SAM || gamma, adpi, dphie) and low tier (beta, KA, dtd || sdt, piphi). Usually top and mid mix with each other, and technically they each mix with one or two primary. Sometimes you plan to mix with one frat or srat and they don’t show up (looking at you tridelt) and sometimes there’s other people who show up that weren’t invited. Date parties and crush parties are more airtight.
Stay away from is very vague. If you ask around some have racism or title 9 cases and you’ll have to figure that out by talking to people. Generally I’d advise shooting for top or mid tier.
Emory is a little different from the other universities in the Bible Belt. Greek life usually sticks with Greek life yes, but sometimes there will be others invited. There aren’t a lot of large on-campus parties because of the university. You’ll see everyone and their mom at the bars and clubs in Atlanta, not just Greek.
I’m a senior about to graduate and Greek life was reallly cool for me, but it’s not for everyone. You might meet some great life long friends, but you also might be stuck with back stabbing idiots for four years.
Note about ranking since it’s been popular lately: rankings are based on looks, money, parties, and Greek involvement. Make your own judgements.
