Greek life manifesto
by: Truth teller
Four score and seven years ago, fraternities ran duke. Now, my friends, greek life is under assault. Even just 10 years ago, we had so much more influence then we do now (central campus houses, blocking in dorms, active advertisements of Greek life on campus). What, I ask you, can be done?
Now it seems like we have been forced into secrecy. No more. Be proudly Greek, whether your house is top of the tier or bottom of the barrel. I don’t know what percent of students are Greek, but I have a dream for the day were Duke is a third or even a half greek. I have a dream where Adphi and Snu, aepi and pikapp, and even pike and ATO can join hands, judging themselves not by the quality of their letters, but by the content of their ferdaness.
Durham IFC should actively be trying to convince underclassmen and national chapters to start Durham chapters of new frats, the same should be done with sororities. 11 frats and 6 srats, with arguably only 5 influential frats and 4 srats, is far too low.
I have a dream where interfrat parties are more regular. As far as I know adphi/dsig St Frattys day was the last joint party, which is now obviously done. I HAVE A DREAM.
We can have beef amongst ourselves but we need to remember the real enemy is the administration and group of students who hate us because, simply, they ain’t us. The admin will try to change our school. They want the average duke student to be a triple mask wearing, spike ball playing, geed who can’t bench 135. We are not UChicago, we are not Wash U or an Ivy. We are not geeds.
You ask me, TT? What can I do?!?
Simple. Rage, rage against the dying of the light, for the night is darkest just before the dawn.
Make Duke Greek again,
TT
