they probably chose to stay because they were afraid duke was gonna crack down hard on ppl in disaffiliated fraternities

By disaffiliating those frats are playing right into dukes hands to kill Greek life

People want to join off campus frats because freshmen can't join on campus frats this semester because of dukes wack ass new rules, there are benefits to affiliating and disaffiliating - basically disaffiliated frats have more freedom and can rush when they want, but affiliated frats have lots of protection and resources from the university. Off campus frats aren't bad or anything, they are the exact same frats as they were a few months ago when they were still on campus, but everyone is unsure how duke will treat the off campus organizations and how tough they will try to crack down on them and what will happen to the individual members since duke has hinted that they may face individual repercussions
