someone explain pledging to me

I’m a dumb freshman and I don’t understand what lineups and tasks are. Also what kind of things do they make you guys do?

So lineups and tasks are like when your class gets together to watch a movie or do community service. Usually we have to volunteer at elderly homes or help prepare food at the homeless shelter.

Usually line ups are where the older brothers sit down in small group settings with pledges and talk about their values and meaningful life experiences while opening up to new members trying to form long lasting bonds of friendship.
