how to make connections

I read this on another post:
"you want a spot in the four sororitys above theta (kappa, pi phi, tridelt, alpha phi) or the five key frats (dsig, adphi, snu, ka, pike) you better be rly hot, rly well connected with the upperclassmen, or in the case of tridelt, both.
basically if you're in that top block you're relevant (tridelt, pi phi, kappa, alpha phi / dsig, adphi, snu, ka, pike)
if you're in theta/pikapp/ato/wayne territory you're sorta relevant
and the rest is irrelevant
but thats just me (I'm clearly in said 'relevant block')"
How do I get in?? Really!

meet them in clubs. meet them at parties. meet them in classes. be friends with freshmen with siblings/friends from home in those frats and sororities. you have a whole semester (although the sooner you do it the higher the chances, lots of things are locked in by late november)

Do your research. Meet guys/girls out and at events. Be social, be outgoing. And remember, even if you don't want to drop a tier to theta/Wayne/pikapp/Ato, connections there help too, although they aren't nearly as necessary

facebook. and for sororitys, look at the tumblrs and know the faces of the girls to make a point of meeting.

just follow the advice written in the post. now is your time to heavily network with all four if you're a girl and all five if you're a guy. see who you like most, see where you fit in. but remember if you know 10 people after a semester the frat/sorority as a whole can be drastically different bc all frats/sororitys each contain a very diverse group of personalities so make sure to take rush into huge consideration as well. good luck freshmen.

if you're saying SOS chances are you won't make the 'relevant' block... try for the semi-relevant

asking for numbers isn't that bad if you make a good bond with someone, social media adds though are much less questionable

this is so true - if you're attractive/charistmatic you don't have to be dirty rushed to get into aphi and ka and pike
tridelt, adphi, snu is all dirty rushing
dsig kappa pi phi if they really like you they'll take you but slim chance

you CAN meet them. it's difficult but you very much can if you have the confidence to and are good with making good first impressions. if your friend group is solid, talk to them at parties, meet them in clubs. go to their philanthropy events! Seriously, if you go w a hot/wealthy/polished friend group, you will all make a good impression and will look familiar during rush and they will investigate you more! it really does make a difference.
