what's the deal with chi o?

by: Hopeful Transfer

I'm a Chi Omega at at a very large state school where it is considered top tier. I hope to transfer to Duke in the fall as a sophomore (fingers crossed). I don't really care about tiers but I do want to know why they are so low?

It doesn't matter you have little to no chance of getting in

Don't listen to the person above! Most people at Duke are very kind and aren't condescending or jerky like the person above. Under the shadow of ambiguity people think they can get away with a lot more than they should be able to on here, which gives them a deluded sense of power. Really, it should just give you an indication of how poor their quality of life really is, and the fact they feel the need to demean others to feel better.

All girls who rush at Duke are guaranteed a bid and those who are not on any other sororities' lists get put in Chi O. Not sure how this started, but Chi O is full of very sweet girls who for the most part are very awkward and don't drink.

For a good bid as a transfer, aim for Theta at best or maybe A Phi.

I would say if you're very social try to meet a lot of APhis but it's not likely. Theta and DG are good bets but still you need to make sure to meet some people in those sororities since you'll be a sophomore.

Sorry about your loss OP.

I don't think you can rush another panhel sorority if you initiated in your chapter. Maybe you will like Chi-O here and can bring about positive changes.

And sorry about the rudeness - there are some less than awesome people on this site.

Thank you for your kindness. Greek rank is just as bad at my school, I just wanted a little anonymous info. I will email the duke chapter and planing a visit next month. Very worst case I don't get admitted and stay where I'm at and enjoy my sorority here. Best case I get in and click with my chapter there or go early alum. I will not let my Greek affiliation decide my overall education. However May and decision time can't come early enough!!!!!

If your chapter at a large school is considered top then I doubt you will be happy at a much smaller private school where the chapter life will be very different. I suggest you meet with the ChiOs here, wish the best of luck getting in but I think way alum might be best a
And get really involved with a group house and just enjoy the frat parties. If you are a top notch girl being a GDI won't ruin your social life if you put your self out there. You said Duke was top for your major so I'm assuming its a STEM. You will find yout way fingers crossed for you too!
