is greek life really worth it?
by: hi
I've been thinking about rushing a sorority as a sophomore but really question whether or not it's all worth the cost (time commitment, money, etc.)
If you're in a sorority, do you feel like you've made genuine friendships, or is it more about having letters to show off on campus

You get what you put into it. The ones that join for letters to show off usually drop halfway through.
Of my 8 best friends- half of them are from my sorority, including 1 in my "family". I've made very sincere relationships and I expect at least 2 of them to be bridesmaids.
And I put very little into my sorority. So yes you will definitely find life long best friends if you join for right reasons. But you can gain a ton more if you put more time into it than I did, plus opportunities for leadership skills.
I loved having my sorority and I wish I would have put more into now that I'm graduating. The connections after college are a plus too, they won't get you a job or anything but if you move somewhere with an alum base it's helpful. It was very very expensive though, so if you join make sure to be really involved. Totally worth it then.
