recs

by: :)

Hi! For rush, would it be really beneficial for me to have letters of recommendation? Or would it not really matter?

Recs are needed for every house at FSU.

I was told that rec letters didn't do much at FSU - they get you to the second round.. But after that, they mean nothing... True??

If you don't have recs the sororities will know nothing about you beforehand. Some chapters need a rec on file before they can give you a bid. (This varies from organization to organization.) FSU is a competitive place to rush and you need to do what you can from your end to make it as successful as possible. GET RECS!

Could a former member (who dropped the sorority, so technically not an alumni) write a rec?

If someone dropped out of her sorority she is not a member in good standing and cannot write a rec.

This got a lot more replies than I thought it would haha thank you so much for the help. One last thing, if I try for winterfest, should I get recs for then? Or do spring rush, see what happens, and if I decide to rush again during fall, just get recs for fall rush?

Rec letters at most, get you to the 2nd round during formal recruitment so I would only do them for sororities you are really interested in. DO NOT GET REC LETTERS FOR INFORMAL RECRUITMENT. That will just make you look like a try hard. Only a handful of sororities will be participating in informal recruitment so don't sweat it. Go and try to have good talks. Instead of doing a rec, just have a friend that is in that sorority speak to the recruitment chair on your behalf.

Lol the people saying recs matter either don't go here or are delusional. They're a slight plus, they will get you past the first round as a courtesy in some houses but besides that they mean nothing. I was worried about them too, but I wouldn't stress them at all.

Do they have to be from alumni or can they be from active members?

Some national sororities allow current active chapter members to write recs, but NOT for women going through on their campus. But the best rec is really from an alum of the sorority.
