sophomore pnms

What do houses usually look for in sophomore PNMs? I decided to wait until next year to rush so I was wondering what would be expected of me so I can be ready in some way I guess

Involvement in other clubs and activities on campus. If you're a sophomore, your high school activities don't matter at all. They want to see what you accomplish in your first year on campus. Girls that do nothing their first year at all are definitely a red flag

Not really true. I rushed as a sophomore and was very involved in high school but didn't do anything my freshman year. The first year I rushed as a freshman I was very unhappy with the outcome, but when I rushed as a sophomore I was loved the sorority I got.

But involvement will never look bad! Plus it's a good way to make friends and stay occupied this year. They look at the same things in a sophomore that they do in a freshman.

They absolutely do not look at sophomores the same way they look at freshmen

They do. They have an upper classmen quota. Obviously.

Upperclassmen quota is a lot smaller than underclassmen. Any grade over freshman is not on the same playing field

There is a different quota for exactly that reason, so sophomores won't be at as much of a disadvantage. It doesn't matter if a freshman is more awesome than a sophomore because they can't replace an upperclassman quota spot with a freshman.

Yes.

But freshmen and upperclassmen are looked at differently & an average sophomore might have been a lot more desirable as a freshman

so basically if I'm an up and coming sophomore but don't fit the sorority "look" I shouldnt even bother rushing next year?

You should still rush if that's what you really want. Lots of sophomores get bids, I'm just saying you might not get the same results if you had rushed as a freshman

NO. TONS of sophomores get bids, and to their first choices. And it doesn't matter what your style is as long as you're well groomed.

If I did not like my outcome of rush fall '15 as a freshman and chose to release myself, thinking that I would rerush as a sophomore next ball… Are you saying, I shouldn't bother…because the outcome will be worse.

The first time around, I had no idea how competitive the process would be... I felt confident, I have a great gpa 3.9/4.8 weighted, cheered varsity cheer all 4 years, homecoming court 3 years, and involved in many other ways during HS - I went into recruitment with a fairly open mind, there where 12 sororities that I thought I would like to be a part of .... I was dropped by 14 houses, including the 12 I originally liked... I was extremely upset and took it personally ... I know understand that there were hundreds of girls just like me and that it was hard to stand out in a group of over 2000 girls . Also, I am from out of state, I didn't know anyone in any sorority, I thought that if I took a year, became involved in other organizations and made some friends involved in Greek life that I may have a better outcome.

I didn't mean that at all! Definitely still rush I was just saying that you aren't judged the same way as a freshman

No! Rushing again as a sophomore worked out great for me. I wasn't prepared the first time around either.
