rush

17 houses, then 13, then called back to 7 houses while other girls our daughter knows only got called back to one. Then of the 3 houses that was our daughters preference, 2 were listed and a 3rd non preference house was put in place of preference house. She visited, saw the ceremonies, ranked the houses and of course got a bid for the replacement which was her 3rd choice.. At every step of the way she kept an open mind but it was if this house was forced on her. She dropped. great student, pretty, cheerleader... and modest.

Had about 2000 enroll. UF about 1600.

Dad, advise daughter to get involved on campus. Especially if she even thinks she might rush again next fall. Have her look at orgs that have a high greek presence so that she can make connections. It really can work the 2 nd time around.

She wasted a bid that another girl would have loved to have. She threw something away that another girl may have cried over not getting a bid. I think dropping out was selfish, immature. Yes she may be great and a cheerleader but only one house choose her and she should have seen that for what it was. If she knew she did not want it WHY did she list it in her 3 choices!!!

are you really on Greek Rank whining about your daughter not pledging a sorority? You really need to get a life! Your daughter probably copped an attitude during rush which is the quickest way to get cut. I should know...I'm in what's considered one of the upper sororities so I know how it works. I love my sorority but I would have still had a great time at FSU if I hadn't gone Greek. By acting like its a big deal you're probably making your daughter feel worse than she already does.

Why did you have to throw in you are in an upper sorority ? All sorority members know how it works.

Hi FSU MOM,

What was the point of coming on here and saying all this? If you feel your daughter did not receive fair treatment take it up with the Office of
Greek Life, not on a public website and your daughter thought she was better than the house that extended her a bid? Sorry, that's beyond RUDE...teach her some manners or STFU

Your modest cheerleading daughter didn't get her 1st or 2nd choice house?!?! Unbelievable! I thought she was perfect in every way, right mom?

I was rush chairman for my house at FSU way back in the day when there were 19 houses. (Several went off during the "radical hippie years") You got cut, you weren't invited back. At least until there was open or informal rush, if at all. No ranking. You put down up to the three houses where you preffed on your bid card unless you went back to two - you used to be able to go back to one of the houses you really wanted twice - or even just to one if you were going to suicide.

So much has changed and I'm just not sure it's for the best. It's become like other really cutthroat schools like the University of Texas, which is not exactly a model. The "top three" have already pre-selected their pledges by the first day of rush. Hope it doesn't get that far.

And even if it does, what does it matter? Rush is competitive in nature and with the amount of people that apply every year, it only increases. That's how it is. Get over it. Either be grateful you even got a bid at all and give that house a shot or don't rush. Greek life is not the end all be all, especially at a university like Florida State. Shame on all the parents coming on here and acting like their daughters deserve some type of special treatment. We know you think your daughters are perfect but reality has to hit them sometime.

That was a long time ago, things change. Our greek system has become increasingly competitive, more girls want to rush every year and chapters can only be added so fast. This is the system so that the most girls possible can get bids if they choose to stick it out and give whatever house a chance.

I don't feel bad for the girls who dropped because they didn't get the houses they wanted, I feel bad for the girls who were released and would have loved to have given any single of the houses a chance.

It's honestly disconcerting to see how concerned you and the other parents on this thread are over the "best houses". Don't care that the houses "looking to fill it's ranks" might have amazing girls and a great sisterhood.

I am not a parent. I graduated 3 years ago. My sister is rushing so I came on here. Ladies - be respectful of mothers or parents. Don't be rude. They have every right to come on here as an informed reader. Chill.

Which comment is even yours? They have every right to be here, but then they need to be ok with the nature of an anonymous ranking website and the responses they will get.

This isn't the place for mothers. Maybe some of them should stop being such annoying ass helicopter parents and making their daughters feel bad just because they didn't get "the house they wanted".

This website is benign. And I was thinking it was just someone trolling too, but I think at least 1-2 of them are real. The really ridiculous one, maybe not.
