made a mistake ...
by: sadI dropped and already regret my decision. I'm already thinking about trying again next year as a sophomore, but what are my chances... will dropping this year be held against me? Do sororities have a "once cut always cut" rule? I'm just really upset, I was really looking forward to being a part of Greek life and let my emotions get the better of me and realize now, I made a big mistake.

You were brave to put yourself out there and you can always go through Spring recruitment or wait till next year and chances are that they'll sympathize with you more than you think. Just focus on your grades, getting involved in other organizations, and making the best of your time at Florida State because if you really want this and you keep trying, chances are in time you will find a home that loves you.

I dropped freshman year after I wasn't happy after pref day. I rushed again as a sophomore and got into one and did a lot better that time with my houses too. I think you should have waited till pref, but yes definitely rush again next fall and stick it out! Now you have an idea of what its like to prepare

thank you for taking the time to reply... I guess I just don't understand what I did wrong. I have a great gpa 3.8 - I am well rounded, varsity cheerleader all four years of highschool, very involved, I am not stick thin, but a size 4 - I'm not Barbie doll pretty but think I'm a really cute girl, and I'm really outgoing... I knew I would be cut, I just didn't think I'd be cut by almost all of them...I'm just confused and a little heartbroken.

She did not have recs. I bet you would have had more success if you had gone to the trouble to get recs. Look at it this way-the majority of the girls rushing are just like you. Great GPA, activities, cute, good conversationalists, etc, i.e., very similar qualifications. The sororities can't invite back everyone. Let's say a chapter has one invitation left and it is between you and another girl. everything is the same except she has a rec and you don't. She is going to get the invite. Some of the sororities have a national rule that each girl they pledge has to have a rec. It is an easy decision to cut the girl with no rec. Be sure to get them before you rush again. Even for COB.

I rushed last year and ended up dropping because I wasn't in love with any of the houses that I got back for pref. I returned this year as a sophomore to rush and did even worse than last year, and I would describe myself the same way you did. I also have a gorgeous friend that did the same exact thing as me and also just dropped today. We both have a lot of really good friends in pretty much every house as well. There were a lot of upperclassmen that rushed this year, so maybe that had something to do with it. I would say go for it, but don't really count on it turning out differently because I know I did and I was pretty disappointed. But I have noticed that you do have deeper conversations as a sophomore and it's not the generic major and hometown thing.

It's not you it's the system. Each house sees so many girls and decisions are made pretty quickly that sometimes great girls do get cut. It's not the end of the world by any means . There is so much more to fsu than Greek life ... Seriously
