fraternity rush

Do you have to know people in the house or have prior contact with them to get a bid? Or can you show up on first couple days of rush and earn one then?

It's better to go out with their brothers before rush, but you can still just show up to rush or a fraternities rush events and get a bid. It's just that if you wait to till the last second you better be a stud of you expect to get a bid from a top fraternity.

I didn't know anyone (old hs friends) who were going through fraternity rush when I got to FSU as a new freshman. My roommate who I had just recently met was interested in rushing so we just started attending rush parties together and we both got bids.
