Op, you have said you are considerably overweight and you are having doubts about rushing.
Yes it will affect and narrower your chances absolutely!
Are you comfortable with being judged on looks, personality academics ect?
If you are then fine, give it a try but know the process is not easy even for girls who fit the image.
Don't rush if you can't handle rejection

If you want to rush, keep in mind the cost of registration. If you have doubts, rush spring. I do not believe there is a fee and you wouldn't waste the money if houses did not accept you in spring. No one wants to pay $200 and not get a bid.

Worst case scenario, you'll get cut by all the superficial houses and end up with one that actually accepts you for who you are

OP, I'll be very blunt with you as someone who has been through recruitment and had their time in a chapter. I guarantee you that you will find yourself a chapter that will accept you but I cannot guarantee you that there will be girls ready to accept you with open arms. I was in a lower sorority and they blatantly discussed getting better standards in terms of unattractive girls during rush with a new pledge class in the room. All in all, these sororities are only here to make themselves money and continue their chapters legacy. If you want to make a name for yourself and feel confident and happy with yourself, I would advise that you give yourself a year and explore various different organizations on campus that are less superficial and more inclined to help you in your career. I know you want to join a sorority but it will break you and make you feel bad about yourself in ways that you don't and won't understand unless you are in one. Being in a lower tier sorority may mean that they will accept you, but only under the conditions that you will hide until you better yourself and become conventionally attractive. There are much better options than this, please believe me.
