Why such extreme difference?

by: Adrian

This is a serious question please. All the sororities seem to be around the same size. But the fraternities have such extreme differences in size. It doesn’t appear to be about not being able to get members. The small ones are happy and the huge ones are happy. Why is there such a difference between the men’s and women’s chapters?

Because the sorority chapters are far more organized and collaborative, being members of the NPC (National Panhellenic Conference.) Under the NPC, there are strict rules for recruitment and chapter expansion that promote equity among the chapters, offer the best chance for a new chapter to succeed, and give as many prospective members as possible a chance for sorority membership. The fraternities don't have an organized system so there is a big disparity in membership numbers.

The women are happy with their system. Men are not interested in equity. Men are competitive. It is that simple.

Yep, this is correct.
