GPA requirements for sorority rush for upperclassman

by:

If my FSU GPA is a 3.1 or 3.2, how much will that hurt me going into rush

Honestly it’s a huge negative. All 17 houses have a 3.4/3.6 average so unless you know some members very well or have some other impressive talents it will be harder for you. Keep in mind you are competing against girls who are coming into fsu with gpas in the 3.5-4.0+ range

Upperclassman have separate quotas, they won't be competing with freshman nor the hs freshman gpas

The GPA expectations will not be as high for sophomores and higher. There will be a higher expectation for incoming freshmen, who use, for the most part, HS GPA. Best to be open for all opportunities if your GPA is 3.2 or lower.

So having a great convo and clicking with a house in the first round wouldn’t even matter if I have a 3.2 as a sophomore in a stem major?? I get how below a 3.0 would negatively affect a house, but there are almost 100 girls in every PC. Would they really pass on a girl they like or not even give her a chance if she has below a 3.5?

Honestly, you will be automatically dropped by several to half the houses. But there are 17 houses. Go in open minded and you will still get a bid from a sorority.

Theta has a minimum of a 3.5 to be extended a bid. They usually make that kind of cut right out the gate. They also have other stipulations in their bi-laws to get a bid
(Hold an executive position in a club at some point) This is just one example. You definitely should just rush and see what happens. FSU is very competitive in all aspects.

the 3.5 gpa minimum applies to sophomores, juniors, and seniors too??? that's ridiculous considering the average gpa of current fsu students isn't even that high

Some houses are so close to the 3.7 average. What bragging rights that will be.

That’s going to be tough but you’ll land somewhere that can look past it. If your major is hard or you’re working multiple jobs let them know.

What about a 3.4 gpa

You should be fine. If you get cut then you get cut. Do you have some crazy hard major or did something happen to cause your grades to drop? If so - let them know.

Every house on campus, let me repeat every house has a gpa average at fsu between a 3.4-3,6 so if you are an upperclassman most every house will drop you with a gpa under 3.4.
Doesn’t matter your major.. there are 200+ girls in each house most with challenging majors.

Taking into account a PNM’s gpa and extracurricular’s helps the sorority assess if the PNM would be able to balance her time commitment to her classes with that of the time commitment to the sorority and succeed with all. Having a lower gpa before joining a sorority might be a cause for concern. Doesn’t matter what your major is. And yes, you might get dropped by some houses despite being a sparkling conversationalist and an on trend dresser, if, as a sophomore you have a 3.2, because there will be an equally accomplished sophomore with a higher gpa to take that spot. That is why we are saying give it your best shot, look for the best in each chapter and be open to them all.

I studied abroad the first year so it was difficult for me to manage travel, being abroad, and classes. I'm rushing now as a sophomore. So will they cut me right off the bat or can I explain that?
