do recommendation letters help for sorority rush??

my mom was in a sorority and thinks that it'll help me when comparing me to a girl similar to me but she has a rec letter and i don't. is this true? should i get rec letters?

Recs aren't required any more but they never hurt, especially at the stronger recruiting houses. They show serious interest that you went to the trouble. Why wouldn't you give yourself every advantage possible? Is your legacy house here?
