It’s actually quite a joke. They try to sell it as competitive but my bf’s roommate got in and he is an idiot and has terrible grades. Basically, they take all of the projects that nobody cares about/wants, and they give it to all of the kids who can’t get research on their own initiative. They structure it under a biweekly class that’s pass or fail and you have a presentation that you do at the end of the course. In all honesty, it’s a way for the university to lump all of the non-competitive premed/science students into “research projects” that they can have something to feel good about, while the professors with actual projects that are significant get student researcher through direct applications, so they can be a little competitive on that end.
Don’t do urop lol, the science depts regularly make fun of it.
