Getting a srat bid not on campus?

by:

Hii I won’t physically be on campus this sem unfortunately. Am I still able to do spring rush or can I even be offered a bid and accept it and just show up fall or do virtual initiation/chapter?

To my knowledge, theoretically yes, you can be given and accept a bid, however, rush week last semester was in person and not being in tally will SERIOUSLY reduce your chances of getting a bid literally anywhere. In addition you won't get the new member experience even if they did so considering that and the fact that a lot of sororities aren't open for spring rush and are only open fall, my highest recommendation is to just wait for next fall.

Thanks for responding. I had done fall already and didn’t work out for certain reasons so I was hoping to avoid the draining of it again but I can see now how if I want to be in one that’s the only way

After more thought on my part, if you want to be really proactive, it could be beneficial to rush this semester and contact any sororities you are interested in and explain your predicament. If they like you and want to give you a bid, they could always guarantee you a spot in fall which could only help your situation and put your mind at ease.

How would I go about doing that though? Wouldn’t they think it’s weird to do?

So there are two rush events for sororities, formal rush only in the fall and COB (continuous open bidding) in fall and spring. COB rush opened today and you can register for it online. It is much less formal and essentially just whichever sororities want to take part in it, will, and have individual events that they may post about on social media. Since you are not on campus, reaching out to them online and trying to just get in touch can at least help get your name out there for better chances in the fall.

If you can get the contact info for the rush chair, that is definitely the person you want to get in touch with. Otherwise, insta dm can work too.
